Natchitoches Preservation Network

Let's build a virtual library of Natchitoches heritage links!

What websites on Natchitoches heritage do you find most useful? Here's an opportunity to quickly and easily share them with the rest of the community.

You may have noticed in the bottom right corner of our home page a box called "NPN virtual library." This is to save online links to sites that can serve as reference material for your research, or for other's as well.

My hope is to create an authoritative library of links to Natchitoches heritage material online. Kind of like one-stop shopping for your research.

Here's all I need you to do to help get this started:

Reply to this post and provide a favorite url. For example, if the Cammie Henry Research Center's page on Caroline Dorman photos was a favorite, I would go to that page and copy the address (http://www.nsula.edu/watson_library/dormon_pics/default.htm) and put it in the post along with a two-sentence description of what is located there.

That's all you have to do. I'll input your suggestions into the Virtual Library and the only web address you'll need to remember is the one that brought you to this site in the first place: www.natchitochespreservation.com

What's useful out there?

This site contains transcriptions of tombstones in Natchitoches Parish which has been a blessing to me while working on my family's genealogy.

I do believe the concept of a virtual Library, or Archival Library would be idea. I have spent many hours attempting to research a Roberts member of our family, who I was able to determine, was a resident in Natchitoches from a Law suit filed in 1823. This I acquired through the Library in New Orleans. Natchitoches from early 1800's until this date and time has always been rich in History. Unfortunately, for those of us who do not reside in Louisiana or in the area, are not privy to this heritage. I have tried to contact the Library in Nachitoches, also the Historical Society, all attempts were in vain.. No one answers. The concept of maintaining the Historical Image of the community is vital, but the untold history, tales of what life was for our ancestors, the documents needed for confirmation. Just the availabilty is vital. To preserve the past it must be done in a multi fashion. Keeping History Alive, mare
