On October 1, 2008, fire broke out at the Kate Chopin House (aka the Bayou Folk Museum) in Cloutierville, La. The fire destroyed the structure, along with most of its contents.
In response, students in the Northwestern State University Heritage Resources programs crafted an plan that could be used to interpret and preserve the memory of the structure, even in its ruined state.
The house is a National Historic Landmark and was the home of author Kate Chopin.
